Do something every single day to get towards your goals, even if it’s just for a few minutes.
I’m a huge proponent of this idea, but in practice it’s very difficult to apply. It’s fine for short periods of time, then life happens or issues with motivation arise.
I haven’t coded since Sunday. It’s now Thursday. Life happens I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That being said, I’m still aiming for daily. I can’t think of anything that can contribute more to my goals than this sort of consistent effort, I’m just having trouble with the consistent part.
Motivation is the main culprit here.
Surprisingly, too much of it can actually be a bad thing sometimes. While it pushes me to code late into the evening or through the weekend, it can be ravenous with regards to my basic needs or any other projects that “get in the way”.
Healthy eating? Optional!
Social life? Stackoverflow!
Of course, this isn’t sustainable, and it’s kind of ironic given that my app is supposed to help keep my life balanced! Every time I improve it I just get more motivated! Can you say infinite loop?
Right now Motivation is negotiating with Sleep Debt and that’s going surprisingly well! For the last 12 days I’ve had plenty of sleep, and I have a lot more energy during the day as a result. I’m laying the groundwork for some healthier habits, which is key if I want to go daily.
Slow and steady wins the race. The slow part is optional, but steady?
Steady is king 👑
